Talk about #MotivationMonday... “It sounds like a great concept for a show, but I’m sorry to be so blunt - you definitely won’t be the host of this show.” That’s what I was told by TV producers and TV executives when I first started pitching the idea of Bare Feet back in 2010. 8 years later and now my SECOND @nyemmyawards WIN for Best On-Camera Talent (4th win overall!!), I’m proud of myself for not listening to that message. Instead, my stubbornness pushed me to prove them all wrong and create the show that they wouldn’t take a chance on! THANK YOU to everyone who has helped make all of this possible - family, friends, fans, crew, mentors, all of you!! ❤️🏆💫
I made it! No matter what happens tonight, I am honored to be nominated once again for Best On-Camera Talent at this year’s @nyemmyawards! Good luck to ALL of the nominees and cheers to an always fun night!! Fingers crossed, everyone!! 🤞🤞🤞 Thank you to @watigers for letting me share my story with you at this year’s International Day and for getting up and dancing with me! 38 countries represented at this school tucked away 100 miles south of Salt Lake City with mountain ranges out your window! It’s a beautiful, educational community filled with a diverse group of talented students who shared their singing, dancing, and musical abilities the entire day. A massive thank you to my high school a cappella teacher, Matt Schukis, who saw me on TV, reconnected with me via social media, and wanted me to come to his new school to share how much of an impact the arts in my youth had on my career (and how awesome of a teacher he was!) Thank you! Merci! Grazie! 고맙습니다 ! Obrigado! Tesekkur ederim! Hvala! Shukriya! 谢谢! 🌎🌍🌏 So excited to share this incredible news! I am honored to be one of this year’s Grand Marshals for the @danceparadenyc on May 19th in #NYC! This is a dream come true - living in the East Village, the annual Dance Parade was my favorite weekend of the year, with thousands of dancers filling St. Mark’s Place and making their way to Tompkins Square Park. And I’m even more floored that I’m joined by the incredible choreographer @camilleabrown, City Council Member @rlespinal who repealed the antiquated cabaret law in #nyc, and legendary DJ Doc Martin! Come join us and the 10,000 other dancers at this year’s Dance Parade - go to DanceParade.org for more info! Happy National Tartan Day! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 As part of #ScotlandWeek here in #NYC, we hosted a raucous Scottish Ceilidh with @visitscotland and opened it up to some lucky Bare Feet fans!! A massive thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated with us! Of course, I was too busy on the dance floor to actually get any shots of the Ceilidh 😊 And don’t worry, we’ll be hosting more live #dance events like this in the near future, stay tuned! Slainte! #ScotSpirit Happy #TravelTuesday - this is what being an #entrepreneur looks like, and this is how the #BareFeetSeries is made - work, hustle, sometimes burn out, then finding inspiration again. You all get to see a lot of the magic with the show, but here’s some of the not-so-glamorous magic that happens behind the scenes. And it’s the beautiful messages and emails and comments and hugs on the streets from you, our fans, that keep this show going!! Thank you! ❤️ #TT #BTS Happy #TT – I’m getting nostalgic for one of my favorite places in the world, #Ireland ☘️we’re hard at work on our newest season of the #BareFeetSeries, and this gem is on the list…stay tuned, we have some exciting news that we can’t wait to share with you all very soon…we can’t spill the beans yet, but it’s going to be BIG! 💚 #traveltuesday #wildatlanticway
Happy #motivationmonday! So proud, as always, to call this woman my big sister – @adrianamallozzi has forever been my role model and she continues to be an innovator and leader for so many people! Her entire life’s work has led her to creating @puffinsip - “What is most exciting and rewarding is that I know that what we’re working to do will help so many people become more integrated into communities, and obtain better educational and employment opportunities.” Read her full interview at @medium as one of @hubweek’s Change Makers - http://bit.ly/HUBweekADRIANA #WomensHistoryMonth #proudsister #girlboss #hubmadness2018
This is what #WTFest18 felt like! 💓Thank you so much again, @gokellylewis, for continuing this journey of bringing together powerful, colorful, diverse, intelligent, creative, entrepreneurial women who all share the bond for love of #travel! 📷: @melisinestudio
Happy #internationalwomensday! 💪”Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.” I’m honored to be named one of @unwomenmetrony’s Champions of Change today, joining a list of inspiring women (and men) who work to empower women! And of course, I want to thank all of the incredible women who have raised me, taught me, cared for me, loved me, mentored me, guided me, and guided all of us with strength, grace, and love ❤️ thank you! I’ve met so many powerful women on my Bare Feet journeys, including the @latingrammys-winning all-female mariachi band, @mariachinyc 🌺 Happy #WCW! The countdown begins, only 1 week left until we kick off this year’s @womenstravelfest in #NYC!! I am honored to be speaking with these fabulous #womenintravel, sharing stories to inspire, empower, educate, and connect women thru #travel! Tickets are almost gone - REGISTER with your mom, your sister, your daughter, or your bestie at WomensTravelFest.com and be sure to use code BAREFEET for 10% OFF! #girlboss I hate standing still and getting my photo taken - I always have and I always will. I’d rather be my silly self and have the freedom to move for video instead. But sometimes you have to be an adult and just do it. Of course, you can also really love the outtakes even more... Thank you, @crackerfarm, for capturing these moments (and for the serious photos too!) Today I received a pretty great birthday present – another @nyemmyawards nomination for Best On-Camera Talent! I get a lot of emails from fans and aspiring hosts/content creators/influencers who ask me often, “How did you get this job?”. And the truth is I didn’t GET this job, I made it. With quite a bit of pushback at the beginning, too. I had the idea of the #BareFeetSeries almost 8 years ago exactly, and when I initially pitched it to TV producers, they all said the same thing… “I’m intrigued by the show’s concept, but I’m sorry to be blunt – you will least likely be the host.” To all of the producers who insisted that they knew better, thank you for giving me the determination and drive to prove you wrong, over and over again! And an even bigger THANK YOU to @madein_ny and NYC Media for giving me the platform to share my stories and create #BareFeetNYC! ❤️🗽❤️#girlboss A big thank you for the ❤️ from @culturetrip - read the full piece “This Dancer Uses Movement to Break Down Language Barriers” on TheCultureTrip.com - it’s an honor to be able to share my story, and I hope it inspires you to share a dance with a stranger! “For me, dance was the language that allowed me to break down those barriers with complete strangers. Traveling wasn’t about taking a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower, it was about the people I met along the way.” Happy #FatTuesday #Carnival #MardiGras – however you want to call it, it still means the same thing – a day to celebrate joy, freedom, and of course #dance! And a perfect day to also celebrate #traveltuesday. I always say “embrace the chaos” when traveling, and it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t take my own advice. 2 years ago, @lina_land and I flew down to @guadeloupeislands to celebrate Carnival, and it was an incredible 4 days of drumming, fried fish, and of course a little chaos. I had the honor of dancing down the road with Waka Chire, one of the Carnival dance groups. And I was supposed to dress in full costume, the same gold dresses and massive gold hats that all the other dancers were wearing. But somewhere before our trip, this message didn’t get through – a little miscommunication, which is really, really common in life, let’s be real. So instead, right before the dancers hit the pavement, we improvised – the dancers were finding scraps of gold fabric, some found extra arm bands and leg bands and gold beads and sparkly things - we all worked together, piecing things together with safety pins and Velcro! As long as I was covered in gold somehow, we were able to make it work for the camera (filming another episode of the #BareFeetSeries). Embracing the chaos has happened more than once in every single episode of Bare Feet, and you would have no idea at the looks of our episodes – but those magical moments of moving forward with a smile make all the difference to me, and to be honest, they’ve always made every episode that much better! 🎊 I grew up watching @sesamestreet - it was my classroom before I was ever old enough to start school. And I was able to live out my dream of dancing in an episode filmed in Central Park a few years back. But here we are again, with funding for essential programming on the chopping block. Public media, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Arts, and so many more publicly funded programs that are essential to our community are being threatened once more! Please take this time to reach out to your local representatives, to Congress, to our lawmakers, and let them know why you support public media. The arts, creative voices, integrity in educational programming for kids and viewers of all ages are imperative. Go to ProtectMyPublicMedia.org to help #SavePBS! #SaveTheNEA
