Travel Bloggers Summit 2017

On September 21-23, Hostelling International USA (HI USA) and Partners of the Americas will co-host the Travel Bloggers Summit on Study Abroad and Global Citizenship —a sequel to the White House event that Mickela attended back in December 2014.  The 2017 Summit will reconvene 100 of the top celebrities, journalists, bloggers and digital media influencers in travel, and is designed to stay true to the community’s original mandate: Go forth and engage young people about the transformative power of travel and study abroad. This large scale, prestigious event also acts as a fundraiser for the co hosts’ distinct scholarship and grants programs that enable more young people to embark on a transformative experience abroad.

Like most professional travelers, my first experience traveling independently was in a study abroad program.  I was part of the summer session at NYU's program in Florence, Italy during my sophomore year of college, and it completely changed my life.  After that summer, I found every opportunity to travel abroad from receiving scholarships for future summer programs to visiting friends who were studying abroad to saving up every year after my NYU days to travel the world any way possible.  It changed me as a person, and without that first travel experience of exploration, self-discovery, and the discovery of people from around the world, I wouldn't be the person I am today.  And I know for a fact that Bare Feet wouldn't exist.  I think travel, especially at a young age, is necessary and should be looked at like another piece to the education puzzle.  Our global competency is shrinking as a nation - I'm so proud to be part of this initiative to help inspire other young people to truly be conscious and responsible global citizens!

The Travel Bloggers Summit will be held during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.  An invite-only Summit will provide a platform to discuss U.S. government initiatives and strategies for encouraging American students to study, volunteer, and work abroad.

The inaugural Global Goals “Green” Gala will be hosted in HI NYC’s backyard, Manhattan’s largest private green space, and serve as a benefit event open to organizations and individuals.

You can join Mickela and the other top travel bloggers and industry leaders for an evening promoting the Sustainable Development Goals through study abroad.  All proceeds will support HI USA’s Explore The World travel scholarships and Partners of the Americas’ USA Study Abroad Diversity Fund grant program.
